How to Create a Behavior Contract for Challenging Students

Monday September 22, 2008
No matter how meticulously designed the behavior management plan, there are always one or two students who need additional support and structure in order to make it through the day in an orderly manner. For these students, I recommend creating a Behavior Contract which is an agreement between the teacher, student, and parents to help the student reach specified behavior goals on a daily basis.

Here's a sample Behavior Contract to show you how it can work.

With time and consistency from all parties, Behavior Contracts can be exactly what some students need in order to stay focused on learning all day long.

This is an excellent idea. It is very helpful to the student to know exactly what is expected of them. It is also helpful to the parents to see all of the exta effort you are putting in. The reward system is a nice touch. The student has something to work towards everyday. I was wondering, does the student get a copy of the contract? This would help them by allowing them to reflecy back on the agreement they have made.Either way ths is a very unique and helpful idea!
