Creating a Fresh Start for your Class in January

Wednesday December 31, 2008
Several years ago, I spent my winter break feeling dissatisfied and distressed about how the school year had gone so far. For a variety of reasons, I felt that many key factors had gone wrong since school started in August. I imagined being able to push a magical reset button with my class and create a new reality for me and my students for the rest of the school year.

I decided that I'd treat the month of January as an opportunity for a fresh new start for my classroom. I retrained my students on proper classroom behavior, modified rules to accommodate the unique personality of this particular class, and resolved to be firm and organized every day. I wanted to get the situation under control and mold a better future for our classroom. I'm happy to say that it worked.

If you are unhappy with how the school year is going so far, use these tips for Creating a Fresh Start for your Class in January. It's never too late to hit the reset button, and January is the ideal time to do so. I wish you lots of luck!
