How to Save Money in Your Classroom

Friday July 10, 2009
No matter how the global economy is doing, it's always important for teachers to be budget-conscious. Unfortunately, most of us have to spend some of our own money each year in order to stock our classrooms and adequately supply our students with the learning tools they need.

So, instead of breaking the bank, why not follow at least a few of these practical money-saving tips as you set up your classroom this year?

I'd love to know how you stretch your pennies in the classroom. Maybe I can add your ideas to the list. Leave your suggestions in the comments section of this post. Thanks!

Thank you for the tips. I am going to put out a scrap bin for my students. They always love making art projects and this will provide them with recycled paper to do so. One other tip I have, that goes along with sending a list home of extra supplies needed, is to put post-it notes on the board on back to school night. Put one extra supply needed on each post-it. Then invite parents to take one so they leave with a specific task as opposed to a large list that seems overwhelming. I have used the post-it technique that last few years and have received many more extra supplies than when I sent a list home.
