Are you counting the seconds until summer vacation?  Has the thought crossed your mind to quit teaching altogether?

We've all been there - feeling stressed, tired, maybe even defeated by the previous school year.  Teaching has one of the highest dropout rates of all professions.  That's why it's important to take proactive steps to improve your attitude, avoid burnout, and get back on track for a successful new school year to come.  The profession can't afford to lose strong, competent teachers like you.

Recently in my graduate program we talked about burnout. I did some research on achieving balance. One blog suggested that we knew what we were in for when we signed on as teachers — that it was much like being a parent. I believe I can teach and have a life as well. In fact, I believe if I don’t have a life the time will come when I have nothing to give — burnout. Better to be refreshed than revived! Thanks for the tips and reminders. Good site.

Thanks for the article on teacher burnout. Some teachers transfer to different grade levels every few years or to different buildings if the district has several elementary schools, as one component of preventing burnout.
