We may not consider the average elementary school campus as a potential hotbed for plagiarism. However, I think it's extremely important that even primary grade teachers start talking about what plagiarism means and how to avoid it. In the age of online research, the issue of plagiarism is more convoluted and prevalent than ever before. By discussing this issue with our young students now, we increase the chances that future generations will develop positive, responsible habits and thus avoid problems in middle school, high school, and beyond.
Do you teach your young students about plagiarism?

I try to incorporate teaching about plagiarism into my teaching. I have had quite a few experiences where students have tried copying (usually other students work) and I try to teach them that they won’t learn if they use someone else’s knowledge. I think it is incredibly important to teach students about plagiarism and I will be making it one of my goals this coming school year!
