How to Deal with the Tragedy of Sandy Hook Elementary

By December 15, 2012

Follow me on:

The news of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut is horrific. As a mother of a first grader, I can't even begin to imagine what the parents are going through. As a teacher, I am devastated that this can happen in our schools. I can't even begin to imagine what those teachers went through trying to protect their students.

My social media sites are flooded with people expressing their condolences. Everyone is looking for a way to deal with this tragedy, and wondering how we can help our children. The National PTA is offering resources on how to cope with school violence. In addition to that, Dr. Phil offers a link on his website on How to Talk to Children about Tragedy.

If you would like to mail sympathy cards or letters of support or solidarity to the school, the address is:

Sandy Hook Elementary School

12 Dickenson Drive, CT 06482

Sending a card is something small, but it can help children deal with the tragedy and allow them to feel like they are contributing.
