My favorite part of school as a child was story time. I remember sitting on the carpet, closing my eyes and imagining what the characters looked like. When I did my first read-aloud during my junior year in college, I recall looking at the students faces and watching them drift off in their minds. Even today reading aloud is my favorite part of the day with my children.
The benefits of a read-aloud seem endless. They improve memory and language skills, and develops creativity and imagination. My three year old lays in bed at night for hours creating stories from her imagination after I read her a story. I can't even imagine how creative she's going to be by the time she gets to kindergarten.

I agree. Reading aloud is a great way to enjoy reading together with anyone. My teen daughter and I still love to read aloud when we have time. We are on the fourth book of The Unfortunate Events series and it is a joy to read out loud. I wish we had more time to do it more often, so enjoy as much time as you can when your kids are younger!
