Studies show that in order for children to improve their reading skills they must practice reading everyday. As teachers, we can help improve our students reading success by implementing reading strategies into our everyday lessons. For example, in the Harold and the Purple Crayon Lesson the sketch-to-stretch strategy was used. This strategy allowed the students to learn how to make connections between text and their real life experiences. Also remember when you are working with students one-on-one, to use reading prompts to help them figure out unidentified words on their own.

When creating your language arts lesson plans, be sure to use the blank reading lesson plan template which has a space for you to add which reading strategies you will be using in your lesson.

What reading strategies do you use in your classroom? Share your ideas in the comment section below.
