Classroom web pages are the next generation of school-to-home communication. Follow these steps to start on the path to your own classroom web site.

- Browse through other classroom web sites for ideas and inspiration.
- Start collecting free graphics that you might like to use on your site, saving them all in a specific folder on your computer.
- Decide on the primary aim or purpose of your classroom web site (parent communication, homework announcements, etc.)
- Attend a beginning web site development class, if at all possible.
- Buy a web site design book for handy reference.
- Decide which software tools you will use to design your site and obtain copies of the programs you need.
- Begin playing around with the software to get used to how it works and to learn about special features and tools.
- Sketch out a layout for your pages, keeping a consistent design on all pages of your site.
- Start designing your page using your HTML editor of choice.
- Start small and add to your site as time goes on.
- When you feel that the site is ready for public viewing, announce it to the public through your school's web site, search engine submissions, and word of mouth.

- Don't fall into the trap of making your web site too busy and distracting; strive for a simple and classy look that visitors will enjoy.
- Web pages are ever-evolving projects; don't feel pressured to make a perfect, complete site right away.
