Class Online

(continued...)

Use the following list of free online tools geared specifically towards teachers. I've written a brief note next to each tool to help you decide which one might be best for what you need. You can use any of these tools without knowing how to write HTML code.

Gradeworks
Aims to give parents and students easy access to grades, assignments, schedules, project descriptions and due dates, teacher workdays, class assemblies, exam dates and class activities. Each parent gets their own password for their student's information only.

SchoolNotes.com
A quick and easy way to post homework and class information. View the sample sites to see how other teachers have set up their sites.

ThinkWave
Download the company's software and publish to the web with the click of a button. Seems a bit more complicated than some of the other free tools.

YourHomework.com
A company that lets you make your own web site for the sole purpose of communicating homework assignments, long-term projects, etc. to your students and their parents.

You may also want to start looking for education-related clip art for use in your web projects. Visit the following sites for great clip art for teachers:

Congratulations! You're on your way to establishing a web presence for your classroom. Remember to update your site regularly, announce it to your audience as soon as it's ready, and look around at other teachers' sites to get ideas.

IMPORTANT: Don't forget about confidentiality issues; it is recommended that you gather permission slips from parents before putting student photos or work online. Also, never use a student's last name; first names only will minimize problems.
