Are you having a hard time trying to come up with unique and thoughtful comments on report cards? Thinking of constructive and insightful comments is not easy, and it takes a lot of effort. It's important to write a descriptive phrase or comment that reflects each student's progress since the beginning of the marking period. It is always best to start with a positive comment, then you can follow it with a negative or "what to work on" comment.

General Report Card Comments

You've completed the daunting task of grading your elementary students, now it's time to think of unique report card comments for each student in your class. Use the following phrases and statements to help you tailor your comments for each specific student. Remember to try and provide specific comments whenever you can. You can tweak any of the phrases below to indicate a need for improvement by adding the word "needs to."

For a more positive spin on a negative comment, list it under goals to work on. For example, if the student rushes through their work, a phrase like, "always does the best work without rushing and having to be the first one finished," can be used under the section, "goals to work on."
