Christmas Around the World Comes Into Your Classroom

Lesson Ideas for Spreading the International Holiday Spirit to Your Students

By

Add an international flair to the Christmas spirit in your classroom by teaching your students how to say "Merry Christmas" in a multitude of languages.

One creative way to expand on this concept is to have each student choose a country and memorize their holiday greeting. Then have the students perform research projects on the rest of that country's culture, history, government, and society. The students can wrap up the research project by doing an oral presentation in front of the class. It's up to you how extensive you want to make this research project.

Alternatively, have each student choose a country and then illustrate what Christmastime looks like in that culture. It may be necessary for the students to do a little research first.

Or, keep it simple and spend some class time practicing how to say the various greetings. No matter how you use this list, your students will enjoy spicing up their understanding of how the international community differs from our own during the holiday season.
