Quick, Fun, and Sentimental

By Beth Lewis, About.com

Did you forget to plan an elaborate Mothers Day lesson for your students, and now time is running out?

Have no fear, these quick and easy Mothers Day craft ideas are the perfect solution for any elementary school teacher in need of a last-minute lesson plan!

  • Take a large piece of construction paper (preferably 11"X14" or more) and have your students design a Mothers Day placemat for breakfast in bed. Laminate it for durability.
  • Bring a digital camera to school and take a photo of each student holding a bouquet or vase of flowers. Print a copy and have the students make cards with the images.
  • Guide your students in coloring a small image or saying for their mothers. Laminate and put a magnet on the back for a quick and easy refrigerator magnet.
  • Find an age-appropriate poem. Work with your students to help them memorize the poem and perform it orally. Train them on how they can recite this loving poem for their moms on Mothers Day morning.
  • Teach your students how to write an acrostic poem using the word "MOTHER." This can also be laminated to make it a little bit fancier.
