Its very funny and clever with the awesome illustrations of Tomie DePaola. It's not your typical costume & trick-or-treating story which is a nice break. I love to do crotchety old people voices for the old man and the old woman and other voices for the rest of the characters. The kids love it!! It has repetitive verse, which is good for young readers or listeners. We use it for the kids to model a story of their own, learning from another author's craft in the style and teachings of Katie Wood Ray. It's in a folktale format so it can also be used to teach other genres of writing.
