By the last day of the school year, summer fever has reached new heights. Sometimes that final day can feel like one big hurdle to overcome before summer vacation.

Take a moment to share your ideas for how to make the most of the last day of the school year so that it's a day you and your students will enjoy and never forget.

Evaluation

I let my class evaluate my performance for the year. They highlight my strengths and they aren't afraid to say how I can improve in the next year.

Last Days Scrapbook

Yesterday I took scrapbook paper to school and handed out all the pictures I had taken all year. Each student had 8-12 pictures I had taken all year. I had printed headings like: Field trip! 4th grade reading buddies, Multicultural Day, Center Time, etc. They happily chose pretty paper they liked and cut the headings. When they were all done they chose another paper for the cover and cut the last heading that said: McKinley School First Grade 2010-2011. They embellished them with stickers after we stapled them together. It kept them busy and they loved making them.

Clean-Up and Movie

As a special year-end treat, I usually put on a movie that corresponds to a book we read as a class, such as "Charlotte's Web." While the movie is on, I have the students help me clean up the classroom. They love to help the teacher!

Last Day Reflections

What I did last year for the last day of school is I did a activity that we had to put papers on each others backs and write good comments on the papers for each other. We also cleaned the classroom. We got to go into a circle and talk about our year and what we liked about the year.

party

My students and I make a simple recipe together and eat that together on the last day of class. Sometimes we make chocolate balls.
