How to Create a Behavior Contract

Monday May 14, 2007
Do you know how and when to Create a Behavior Contract?

Sometimes a particular student requires extra structure and guidance to fall into line with your set behavior standards. A behavior contract can really come in handy in situations like these.

Beth,

I appreciate your advice on how to develop a behavior contract. I hope that you realize that some kids that require a behavior contract are generally well-behaved and from loving homes. At times it’s the teacher who is overwhelmed and needs help in setting limits and guidelines. I felt the need to point out that although there are plenty of kids in school who have severe behavior problems, there are several more very bright students who are stuffed into overcrowded classrooms with kids at various levels of learning and an inexperienced teacher who may have a hard time keeping up with them all. There are students who blurt out all of the answers and who become bored because the teacher is going over last week’s lesson, again. Those kids need to practice patience and self control – the behavior chart can help with this. Thanks for allowing me to add my comment.
